 Boldly Go...
We had our very first preschool field trip today. We went to the apple orchard. It was so much fun. First, we got to ride a school bus. I have never ridden a school bus before. It was pretty cool. Although mom made me sit with my stinky sister. I wanted to sit with mom.

Then we got to the orchard and there were tons and tons of trees. This nice lady told us all about the trees. Some of the trees had big dents in them because back in June they had a hail storm with golf ball sized hail. And that hail left those big dents in the apples. She said they were still good. They just didn't look very pretty.

We walked over to some trees ready for picking and we got to pick our own apple. Mom lifted me up so I could reach the best apple. There weren't very many apples down low because the deer had gotten in and eaten them already. Our apples didn't look all shiny like they look in the store. So the lady told us to polish them. To polish the apples we rubbed them on our shirt and our pants. It was fun.

As we were eating our apples we looked at a few more trees. They even had pear trees. The lady told us that they pick pears before they are ripe. And then they sit for a few days and ripen up. My pears usually just come in a can with some pear juice so I didn't know that.

They also had goats. But the goats didn't know the difference between food and fingers. So we needed to stay back a little bit. One of the goats stuck is head out of the fence. I reached up to pet him, but some woman told me to get back. She scared me when she told me that so I went back to stand with mom. I just wanted to pet him. But it's probably good that I didn't. I wouldn't want him to eat my finger.

In the barn we got to see a real apple polisher. It's a big, loud machine. The apples go on this little moving belt thing. First they get sprayed with water. Then they bounce around on sponges. Finally they drop down to a table for packaging. It was pretty nifty.

After all that we got to ride the bus back to school. Mom, Skyler & I played a tickle game. And Skyler told us a bunch of riddles that she made up. She's funny.

So my very first field trip was a huge success. I had a great time and can't wait to eat more apples.
